Norman M. Oliver has been a leader in the City of Wilmington
and the State of Delaware since he graduated from Delaware State
University in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in Social Work.
"Stormin" is no stranger to the Delaware political
and governmental scene. Upon completing college, he worked in
a staff role with the former Mayor Dan Frawley, he also served
as a political advisor to the former Attorney General Charles
Oberly. Norman became well known throughout the State by the establishment
of "Stormin' Norman's Basketball League" - a program
where hundreds of young men participated in organized sports (but
only if their grades were good enough!) and learned the many important
lessons of sportsmanship and team playing.
In 1993 Norman was successful in running for the position of
the 4th District City Council seat. He held this position for
three terms. While still holding his seat on council, in 1993,
Norman was elected as Chair of Wilmington's Democratic Party and
has been a part of Delaware's delegation to the Democratic National
Convention. Norman has always been an entrepreneur, as a result,
he owns three businesses: Nor Enterprises Inc, City Pizza recently
featured in the News Journal) and City Tavern. In 2003 Norman
decided to give up his City Council seat to further develop his
businesses.
Nor Enterprises Inc. provides educational consulting services
and among other things, has been retained by each of the northern
New Castle County school districts to assist in reaching young
boys and girls who need encouragement to succeed.
Norman has been an elected official and has run national, statewide
and local political campaigns. Others organizations, both non-profit
and profit seeking growth and development have sought Mr. Oliver
for guidance and leadership. He currently serves on the Boards
of Directors of Delaware State University and Sterling Bank and
is active in the Wilmington Rotary Club, the Monday Club and Kappa
Alpha Psi fraternity.
Norman lives in Wilmington with his wife and two children
